OVERVIEW
The Certified Sustainable Project Professional is PMI's sustainability credential, developed with Green Project Management. It is not a greener PMP. It tests PRiSM — Projects Integrating Sustainable Methods — and the P5 Standard for sustainability and impact analysis.
There are two pathways, and they sit different exams. If you already hold a qualifying project credential such as PMP, PgMP, PfMP or CAPM, you complete 12 hours of sustainability education and sit domains 1–5: 100 questions in two hours. If you do not, you need a secondary school qualification, 20 hours, and you sit domains 1–6: 145 questions in two hours 55 minutes, with a 10-minute break you cannot reverse.
This programme delivers the education hours for either pathway and teaches all six domains, so a candidate without a project credential is not left to cover Domain VI alone.
Pathways
Certified practitioners: 12 hours and a shorter exam. Everyone else: 20 hours and Domain VI.
Exam domains
Certified practitioners sit 1–5. Non-certified sit 1–6. P5 is the largest domain on both papers.
Hours, if already certified
20 hours if you do not hold a qualifying project credential.
or 145 questions
Two hours, or two hours 55 minutes with a break, depending on the pathway.
The exam is administered by PMI, online or at a Pearson VUE test centre. We prepare you for it and support your application — we do not set or mark it.
Who it's for
It is written for people who will integrate sustainability into project work, whether they already hold a project credential or not.
Already certified, and wanting the 12-hour practitioner pathway rather than a second general credential.
The 20-hour pathway exists for you, and the exam includes Domain VI on project management considerations.
Accountable for impact, reporting and governance, which is where P5 and Domain V sit.
Needing a method — PRiSM and a sustainability management plan — rather than a policy statement.
CSPP REQUIREMENTS
Two pathways. Twelve hours if you already hold a qualifying project credential. Twenty hours and a secondary school qualification if you do not.
| Highest education | Project experience | Project management education |
|---|---|---|
| Certified practitioners | 12 hours of sustainability education, if you hold a qualifying project credential in good standing | — PMI PMP, PgMP, PfMP or CAPM, or another qualifying certification listed in PMI's outline |
| Non-certified practitioners | 20 hours of sustainability education, with a secondary school diploma or global equivalent | — You sit Domain VI as well — project management considerations |
This programme delivers the hours for either pathway. Qualifying credentials in PMI's April 2026 outline include PMI's PMP, PgMP, PfMP and CAPM, and named credentials from AACEI, APM, AIPM, IPMA and PRINCE2. If you hold something else, read the current outline before you apply — we will also check it with you.
Eligibility is assessed by PMI, not by ProCert. Not sure which pathway you are on? Send us what you hold on WhatsApp.

WHERE CSPP CANDIDATES GET CAUGHT
Sitting the practitioner paper without a qualifying credential, or the longer paper when you already hold one.
Preparing PRiSM and reporting, then meeting P5 Impact Analysis at 36% of the practitioner exam.
Skipping Domain VI as a certified practitioner — correct — then recommending the same skip to a colleague who is not certified.
Treating this as a policy course when the exam asks what you would do on a project.

Questions
If your sponsors now ask about ESG and impact, it is the PMI credential written for that question. It is not a substitute for PMP. It sits beside it. The outline is a PMI partnership with Green Project Management.
Two pathways. Certified practitioners: 12 hours of sustainability education and a qualifying project credential in good standing — PMI PMP, PgMP, PfMP or CAPM, or another credential listed in PMI's outline. Non-certified practitioners: a secondary school diploma and 20 hours.
Certified practitioners sit domains 1–5: 100 questions (85 scored, 15 pretest) in two hours. Non-certified practitioners sit domains 1–6: 145 questions (130 scored, 15 pretest) in two hours 55 minutes, with one 10-minute break they cannot reverse.
Project Management Considerations. It is 23% of the non-certified paper and is not on the certified paper. It covers foundational project knowledge for people who do not already hold a project credential.
The P5 Standard for sustainability and impact analysis. It is Domain III, and it is 36% of the practitioner exam — the largest single domain. That is where under-prepared candidates lose marks.
