OVERVIEW

What a Lead Implementer does

Malaysian organisations are already using AI in hiring, credit, customer service and operations. Boards, clients and regulators are starting to ask who owns those systems, how risk is treated, and what evidence exists when something goes wrong. ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is the management system standard that answers that — and Lead Implementer is the credential for the person who has to build the system, not only describe it.

A Lead Implementer plans the Artificial Intelligence Management System, assigns roles, runs risk and impact assessments, and prepares the organisation for Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits. The four-day programme walks the clauses in order, from context and leadership through operation, evaluation and certification preparation.

Foundation is the two-day entry point if you still need the vocabulary. This page is the implementation step: 16 modules, 32 contact hours, and a 60-question scenario-based examination. Completing the self-paced course package meets the hours GAICC require before you sit that exam.

WHO IT IS FOR

Who should take this certification

No prior experience is required. Relevant knowledge of AI projects, compliance or audit will help you get more from the four days.

OUTCOMES

What you will be able to do

By the end of the course you should be able to lead an AIMS implementation, not only explain the standard.

  • Plan and lead the implementation of an AIMS aligned with ISO/IEC 42001
  • Conduct risk and impact assessments and develop treatment plans
  • Manage the AI lifecycle — from design to deployment, monitoring and improvement
  • Build and manage an AIMS team with clear roles and competencies
  • Apply evidence-based and risk-based auditing to evaluate AI systems
  • Prepare for and conduct Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits — reviews, interviews, analysis and reporting
  • Identify and report nonconformities, and propose corrective actions
  • Guide an organisation toward certification readiness

FAQ

FAQ

What is the GAICC ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer certification?

It is GAICC’s implementation-level credential for ISO/IEC 42001:2023. A Lead Implementer plans, leads and oversees an Artificial Intelligence Management System — policies, roles, risk treatment and the evidence a certification audit will ask for. It sits above Foundation on the same pathway.

Who is this training for in Malaysia?

Project and implementation leads rolling out AI governance, consultants supporting clients on compliance, governance managers steering a programme toward ISO/IEC 42001, and internal audit coordinators preparing for a certification audit. No prior experience is required; relevant knowledge helps you get more from the four days.

What are the eligibility requirements?

32 contact hours of structured ISO/IEC 42001 training. The self-paced course package includes training that meets this requirement.

How is the exam set?

Sixty scenario-based multiple-choice questions, sat online under proctoring, in 90 minutes. The published pass mark is 70%.

How long is the certification valid, and how do I renew it?

The credential is valid for three years. Renewal requires 32 CPD credits in that cycle, then a renewal application.

How many CPD hours will I earn?

You receive 32 CPD/PDU hours on completion of the Lead Implementer course.

Can I take the course without sitting the exam?

Yes. You may complete the Lead Implementer course for the knowledge and the CPD/PDU hours without attempting the examination.

What happens if I do not pass the exam?

GAICC members receive one exam voucher per certification. A further attempt after an unsuccessful first sitting requires the applicable exam fee.

What is the difference between the two packages?

The self-paced course package includes the full video course and everything needed to prepare from scratch. The membership and exam package is for candidates who have already completed their ISO/IEC 42001 training and only need the examination, membership and supporting resources.

Can I buy the exam package if I have not done the training?

No. Thirty-two contact hours of structured ISO/IEC 42001 training are required before you can sit the examination. If you have not completed it, choose the self-paced course package.

How is this different from ISO/IEC 42001 Foundation?

Foundation is the two-day entry point: what the standard requires and how an AIMS is structured. Lead Implementer is the four-day implementation credential: planning the system, leading the team, treating risk and preparing for Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits. If you still need the fundamentals, start with ISO/IEC 42001 Foundation certification training.

Is the GAICC certification programme CPD accredited?

The GAICC certification programme is CPD accredited.
